Sunscreen VS Sunblock
12/03/2010

Are you using a sunscreen or a sunblock? There is a difference you know! Sunscreen that you buy from the big box stores or drugstores can advertise what they do and are without regulation. They are most likely sunscreen with many different chemical compounds (long names) to protect the skin from UV and UVA rays from entering the layers of the skin. They do a great job of absorbing the UV/UVA rays so the rays do not enter the skin layers. The only problem is they are destroyed within minutes of UV/UVA exposure. So what happens is that you are not protected at all. That's why the manufacture wants you to reapply every 30 minutes or so because the chemicals are non productive.

A true Sunblock must contain Zinc or Titanium Oxide, physical properties to properly protect the skin or area it is applied too. This physical compound acts like a wall to protect your skin from the full spectrum damage of UV/UVA and now UVC rays. It cannot be destroyed by the UV/UVA rays like chemical sunscreens are, even though they say they are 50, 70 etc. protection, that means nothing when you want full protection. Use a physical sunblock. The day you start using one is the day you stop aging as well.

Check with your skin care professional on what brand to use or show her the one you think is protecting you so you know you are on the right path to protection.
